now is okay

It is customary
To file complaints
On the waistband of reason
Following down the rabbit hole
The power of tomorrow

Drenched in glee
Fighting for what is not
I submit to my own true lies

I make amends for what I did not know
And for all that I could not see
I wipe my hands of fury
For my soul lies clean and dry

Rid of what I once thought life was
I cannot ride the wave on faulty grounds
Cold in my weary heart
Afraid of what already is
Distracted from my own complacency

I do not know
What I do not know yet
Where the road curves
Into tomorrow

Filing away wands of trepidation
My sweat reeks of stolen compromises
All I know to do is wade in deep water
Waiting for someone to rescue my soul
From water logged legacies
Far away condolences
When does the water
Turn frigid with disdain

For the lives that were lost
Along the way
